Details

The Gyrfalcon is the largest true falcon in the world. They have a variety of plumage colors that range from a dappled white to almost pure black. Gyrfalcons have been highly regarded by falconers throughout falconry’s history. In the Middle Ages, only a king could hunt with a Gyrfalcon. Gyrfalcons that nest in the arctic regions frequently begin breeding and laying eggs when the temperature is still below freezing. For more than three decades, The Peregrine Fund gathered information on the behavior, nesting habits, migration patterns, and diet of the Gyrfalcon. Jabebo earrings inspiration for these comes from visiting nature centers, wildlife refuges, parks, gardens, museums and all kinds of other interesting locations.

Post-consumer cereal box cardboard is used to construct the earrings. Print and images from the cardboard packaging is visible on the reverse of the earrings. Two layers of cardboard are sandwiched together to provide a sturdy base for the color image applied on the front. Light Weight and hung on on Surgical Steel Hangers Being made from paper, the earrings are light weight and comfortable to wear. Ear nuts to keep them from slipping out are provided.

Water Resistant, not water proof. Shellac is used to glue the layers of paper material together and and provides the nice shiney top coat for the finished product. Shellac is a natural product and a renewable resource that will protect the earrings from brief and intermittent exposures to water. It also protects the colors from fading by acting as a natural filter from UV light.
