American Kestrel The American Kestrel is colorful, easy to identify, widespread, and has a strong affinity for nestboxes — all of which make it an ideal candidate for research. Data indicates American Kestrel populations are declining in numerous regions of North America. The Peregrine Fund is currently working with Boise State University, combining research focused on generating data for understanding the relationships between nesting characteristics and environmental conditions, hopefully leading to understanding the reasons for decline.
